A common chinese spice blend that adds depth to dishes. Below is the typical commercial ingredients, but you can swap out or add more
flavours to change the depth of the blend. I typically add in the dried orange peel if I have any.
Ingredients and Equipment
You either need a mortar & pestle, or a spice grinder if using whole spices.
Cinnamon (0.5 tsp)
Szechuan peppercorns (1 tsp)
Star anise (1 tsp)
Cloves (0.3 - 0.5 tsp)
Fennel seeds (0.5 tsp)

Black peppercorns
Dried orange/mandarin peel
Nutmeg
Licorice
Galangal powder
