A tropical drink that is known throughout the Caribbean! There are many
variations on the drink, but they follow the same basic ratio structure of
1:2:3:4. Which breaks down to:
1 part sour (lime juice)
2 parts sweet (simple syrup)
3 parts strong (rum)
4 parts weak (water, or juice)
As they say in the islands, make some, kick back, and lime!
Ingredients and Equipment
Angostura Bitters
Lime Juice concentrate (30 mL)
Orange + Pineapple Juice (120 mL)
Maraschino cherries
Nutmeg
Gold Rum (90 mL)
Simple syrup (60 mL)
Remembering the ratio 1:2:3:4, one can easily scale for use with 1 750 mL rum bottle, which is great for a potluck!
Do not use fancy rum, it is a waste for a punch.
Substitutions
Oasis tropical passion works great as a juice substitute!
Simple syrup can be replaced with grenadine. It will be more red in colour,
which doesn’t look right to me, perhaps use ½ as much grenadine syrup.
Method
In a cocktail shaker mix, the lime juice, simple syrup, rum, juice, and a
dash of Angostura bitters.
Shake vigorously
Serve in a glass with a lot of ice
Garnish with a dash of nutmeg, and 1 or 2 maraschino cherries
